Haines Alaska Lodging and Accommodations
We are open 365 days a year!
For groups of five or more, we will offer a twin bed with breakfast, lunch and dinner (prior notice required)
The Funny Farm has a long and storied history in Haines Alaska. Traditionally known as the central point for the birth of the local heliski scene, the Funny Farm is a fantastic place for any season, for work or play. A large and comfy Alaskan style lodge with heavy wood beam construction, there are several large communal spaces for relaxing with friends, and many small nooks to curl up and read a book. A visit to our beautiful sauna is just as pleasant after a day of salmon fishing in the fall, as it a day of heli-skiing or snowmobiling during our legendary winters. Having been unfortunately destroyed by a fire in December 2011, the Funny Farm has been rebuilt better than ever. Clean, stylish and exceptionally comfortable, this is the place to base your South East Alaska and Yukon adventures from. During much of the winter season, you can leave right from the Funny Farm on skis, fat bike or snowmobile. During the spring, summer and fall, the region is rich with fishing opportunities. With a river at either end of Mosquito lake Road, not only are there numerous salmon runs but opportunity for water recreation abounds. Just a short distance from the Funny Farm are put-ins to both the Chilkat and Klehini rivers and several lakes. Whether seeking moose in a jet boat or a liesurly paddle board wildlife tour going with the current, opportunities abound.
A visit to Haines is recommended, but if wanting to play in the valley, the Funny Farm is the closest lodging to the majority of hiking, fishing, hunting, ATV and Fat Bike territory. If ski touring or snow mobiling on Haines Pass, we are almost 30 miles closer than town (and way more homey + SAUNA). If wildlife viewing, art or photography is your interest, we are located at one end of the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve which deserves a visit and almost certainly will supply Eagles. It gets better, we have a neighbor with pet Wolverines, yes you read that right. Just down the road from the Funny farm is Kroschels Wildlife Center where you can view up close and interact with, the most amazing animals of Alaska and the Yukon. Wolverine, Grizzy, Moose, Wolves, Reindeer, Porcupine, Fox, Lynx and more! The Funny Farm can arrange private photo sessions for our guests (min $300 or $50pp) we can also help you join scheduled tours. Often times your host can direct you a short distance away to an area with an extremly good chance of viewing brown and black bears visiting salmon spawning grounds (aka “bear buffet”) The opportunities for fun are not limited, regardless of season. Come and ski, snowboard, fish, snow mobile, fat bike and so on but, depending on guests present, the Funny Farm is a great place to celebrate the day. Accommodating to large groups with bonfires, crab boils, fish and chips or taco night, and often times fireworks, good times are had by all. If playing all day, eating and partying all evening is not enough for you, ask about participating in the Funny Farm Games, an Alaskan style timed course to determine King or Queen of the FF for that season (prizes included).
We have always enjoyed hosting famlies, TV and documentary film crews, and traveling work professionals. If you wish to inquire about reserving the lodge to yourself or just seeking quieter times or extended stays, please reach out on our contact page, we are happy to accommodate and often can assist you with your plan.
